Join Words with Friends (yegwords) Edmonton Creative Writing Collective for the second annual WordCrawl, coming Saturday, June 8, 2013.
What is WordCrawl? WordCrawl is a one of a kind event that highlights both established and up-and-coming talent from Edmonton’s literary arts community, as well as several local independently owned and operated businesses that are committed to supporting it. It is also the love child of an orgy between a literary reading, a poetry slam, a songwriting showcase, and a pub crawl.
One night, four venues, a dozen local writers, one super-talented local singer-songwriter, beer, wine and a whole bunch of laughs and smiles.
We gather at Brittany’s Lounge (10225 97 St) at 6:00 pm for pre-crawl mix-and-mingle, a few drinks and performances from Words with Friends regulars.
The Word Crawl Express (Yellow School Bus) will then take us to Audreys Books (10702 Jasper Ave) for an intimate reading featuring complimentary wine bar courtesy of Meghan Darker at Lifford Wine & Spirits and Charles Smith Wines with novelist Diana Davidson, poet Thomas Trofimuk and a third yet-to-be-announced featured writer.
From there we will move on to the Ortona Armoury (9722 102 St) for a literary cage match with students from U of A and Grant MacEwan, where guests will receive a complimentary Alley Kat beverage, with the option to buy more. Guest judges TBA.
After that, we hit Cha Island (10332 81 Ave) for slam poetry performances from Jan and Kaz of Breath In Poetry Collective and Edmonton’s Slam Team, as well as the folk-rock stylings of Ben Disaster to close out the show.
The WordCrawl Express will then drop us back off at Brittany’s to collect our vehicles and perhaps enjoy a nightcap. Further details on performers and the finalized schedule are TBA shortly.
Please join us in a one of a kind event for Edmonton’s arts community. Help us support local artists and these great local businesses that go out of their way to sponsor the arts in our city.
Tickets are $25 for the whole evening, available online via EventBrite, as well as in person from Jason or Kasia. There are only 40 tickets available, so get ‘em while they’re hot! We may or may not release additional tickets in the event these 40 sell out, but we have to check our space, so we can’t promise.
