Our eighth Words with Friends event will be held 200 feet above the North Saskatchewan river on the High Level Streetcar. We will board the streetcar promptly at 7:00 pm from the South Terminus in Old Strathcona, located on 103 Street at 84 Avenue.
The streetcar will depart from Old Strathcona towards downtown and will stop on the High Level Bridge for approximately one hour, during which time the bar will be open and you will enjoy performances from 2012 Edmonton Story Slam-Off winner Omar Mouallem, award-winning novelist Todd Babiak, poet and Word Crawl alumna Rebecca Traquair, as well as Words with Friends co-founders Jason Lee Norman and Kasia Gawlak. After the show, the streetcar will carry on into downtown and those who wish to depart the event on the North side of the River will have that option. The evening will officially end with the return of the streetcar to Old Strathcona.
Space for this event is limited and interest is high. Guaranteed seating is now sold out, but we currently have 6 standing room tickets available for $5 each through EventBrite (small service fee applies). Those will go on sale at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 5. Ticket price includes one drink from the bar, beer or possibly wine (we’re still working on suppliers). And don’t forget to RSVP on Facebook!
If you have a story or poem about rivers, bridges, being afraid of heights, dying in a streetcar fire, or anything that could possibly be tied to overall streetcar lifestyles and are interested in reading something for everybody, please email Jason at firstname.lastname@example.org
